Prepare crispy, seasoned fish bites in your air fryer and serve them in a portable ‘walking taco’ style bag.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb white fish fillets (cod or tilapia), cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil spray
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 individual bags of corn chips (e.g., Fritos or Doritos)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • Optional: lime wedges, salsa

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, mix the flour, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Lightly spray the fish pieces with olive oil spray.
  3. Dredge the fish pieces in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (195°C).
  5. Place the coated fish pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd; work in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the fish is cooked through and crispy.
  7. While the fish cooks, prepare your toppings: shred the lettuce, dice the tomatoes, and measure the cheese and sour cream.
  8. To assemble the walking tacos, open each bag of corn chips about halfway down the side. Gently crush the chips slightly inside the bag.
  9. Top the chips directly in the bag with a portion of the hot air-fried fish pieces.
  10. Add your desired toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and a dollop of sour cream or yogurt.
  11. Serve immediately with a lime wedge and salsa, if using.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can lightly spray the floured fish again with oil spray before air frying.
  • Use any sturdy corn chip that holds up well to toppings.
  • Tilapia or cod work best as they are firm and cook quickly.
