Ingredients
Scale
6 medium apples, such as Honeycrisp or Gala
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Peel, core, and slice the apples. Place them in a large bowl and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers, a pastry blender, or a fork to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Pour the sliced apples into a lightly greased 8×8 inch baking dish or similar oven-safe dish. Spread them evenly.
Sprinkle the oat streusel topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
For an extra layer of flavor, you can add a handful of chopped pecans or walnuts to the streusel topping.
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic pairing.
If your apples are very tart, you can add an extra tablespoon or two of sugar to the apple mixture.
