Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. Cook the spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
  3. While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  5. Pour in tomato sauce, oregano, and basil. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, beaten egg, and Parmesan cheese. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
  7. In a large bowl, toss the drained spaghetti with half of the meat sauce until evenly coated.
  8. Press half of the spaghetti mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared springform pan to form the crust.
  9. Spread the ricotta mixture evenly over the spaghetti base.
  10. Spoon the remaining half of the meat sauce over the ricotta layer.
  11. Top the sauce with 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese.
  12. Cover with the remaining spaghetti mixture, pressing down gently. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese on top.
  13. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are golden brown.
  14. Let the spaghetti pie cool in the pan for 10 minutes before releasing the springform sides. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can prepare the sauce ahead of time to save time on busy weeknights.
  • For a richer flavor, use Italian sausage instead of or mixed with the ground beef.
  • If you prefer a less dense crust, use slightly less spaghetti mixture for the base layer.
  • This pie reheats well in the microwave or oven.
