A simple recipe for pan-frying apple slices coated in a buttery cinnamon sugar mixture until tender and caramelized.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large firm apples (like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into uniform half-inch thick pieces.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon, and salt together. Set aside.
  3. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat until it foams slightly.
  4. Add the apple slices to the skillet in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Cook the apples for 3 to 4 minutes per side until they start to soften and turn light golden brown.
  6. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the apples.
  7. Continue cooking for 1 to 2 minutes, tossing gently, until the sugar dissolves and forms a light glaze around the apples.
  8. Remove from heat immediately and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use a firm apple variety that holds its shape well during cooking.
  • For a richer flavor, substitute half of the granulated sugar with packed light brown sugar.
  • Serve these apples over vanilla ice cream or alongside pancakes for a complete dessert or breakfast.
