Ingredients
Scale
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup black sesame paste
1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
Stir in the black sesame paste until the dough is uniformly colored.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in the sliced almonds.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For an intense sesame flavor, toast the black sesame seeds lightly before grinding them into a paste, if making your own.
You can press a few extra sliced almonds on top of each cookie before baking for decoration.
Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
