Make a refreshing homemade blueberry lemonade using fresh blueberries and lemon juice. This recipe includes instructions for a simple blueberry simple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water (for syrup)
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)
  • 4 cups cold water (for mixing)
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and fresh blueberries for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the blueberry simple syrup: Combine the blueberries, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes, crushing the berries slightly with a spoon.
  2. Strain the syrup: Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing the solids to extract all the liquid. Discard the solids. Let the syrup cool completely.
  3. Combine the lemonade base: In a large pitcher, mix the cooled blueberry simple syrup, 1 cup fresh lemon juice, and 4 cups cold water.
  4. Taste and adjust: Taste the lemonade. If you prefer it sweeter, add a little more simple syrup. If you prefer it tarter, add a splash more lemon juice.
  5. Serve: Fill glasses with ice. Pour the blueberry lemonade over the ice. Garnish each glass with lemon slices and a few fresh blueberries.

Notes

  • For a deeper color, let the strained syrup sit for 30 minutes before using.
  • If you want sparkling lemonade, substitute 2 cups of the cold water with club soda or sparkling water when mixing.
  • You can make the simple syrup up to one week ahead and store it in the refrigerator.
