Make a very moist and tender chocolate chip banana bread using a simple one-bowl method. This recipe works well for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large very ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a standard 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until mostly smooth.
  3. Add the melted butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas. Mix until just combined.
  4. Sprinkle the baking soda and salt over the wet mixture. Stir briefly.
  5. Add the flour to the bowl. Mix with a spatula until just incorporated; do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  8. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use bananas with dark brown or black skins for the best flavor and moisture.
  • For a buttery flavor, use high-quality unsalted butter.
  • If the top browns too quickly during baking, loosely tent the loaf with aluminum foil for the last 15 minutes.
