Make this easy, make-ahead chocolate overnight oats recipe for a decadent yet healthy breakfast that tastes like brownie batter. It is perfect for busy mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder or cacao powder
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a jar or container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix these dry ingredients well.
  2. Add the Greek yogurt, milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to the jar.
  3. Stir or shake the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined and there are no dry clumps of cocoa powder remaining.
  4. If using, stir in the chocolate chips now.
  5. Seal the container and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight.
  6. In the morning, check the consistency. If it is too thick, stir in a splash more milk.
  7. Serve cold directly from the jar. You can top it with fresh berries or nuts if desired.

Notes

  • For a high protein oats boost, add one scoop of your favorite chocolate protein powder along with the dry ingredients.
  • If you prefer a thinner consistency, increase the milk amount slightly.
  • This recipe works well for meal prep oatmeal; make 3-4 jars at once for quick grab and go meals.
