Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
For the Filling:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
For the Glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2-3 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the filling.
Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared baking pan.
Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the batter.
Pour the remaining cake batter over the filling. Swirl gently with a knife or skewer to create a marbled effect.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake.
Notes
Ensure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for best results.
Do not overmix the batter once the flour is added.
Adjust the amount of milk in the glaze to reach your desired consistency.
