Enjoy these crispy, golden wontons filled with a creamy, savory crab and cream cheese mixture. Perfect as a party appetizer or a delightful snack, they are best served with a sweet chili dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12 ounces) wonton wrappers
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 4 ounces imitation crab meat, finely chopped
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Sweet chili sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, chopped imitation crab meat, sliced green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Lay one wonton wrapper flat. Place about 1 teaspoon of the crab mixture in the center.
  3. Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half to create a triangle, pressing the edges to seal. You can bring the two bottom corners of the triangle together and pinch them to create a more traditional wonton shape.
  4. Repeat with the remaining wonton wrappers and filling.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully fry the wontons in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the fried wontons with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with sweet chili sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a less oily wonton, you can bake them at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • If you can’t find imitation crab, you can use cooked real crab meat.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened to make mixing easier.
  • Do not overcrowd the pot when frying to maintain oil temperature and ensure even cooking.
