Make crispy chicken wings without deep frying using this simple baked recipe with a sweet and savory honey garlic glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  2. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispiness.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the wings with baking powder, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  4. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the wire rack.
  5. Bake for 25 minutes. Flip the wings and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the skin is golden brown and crisp.
  6. While the wings bake, prepare the sauce: Combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil in a small saucepan.
  7. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
  8. Once the wings are cooked, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the warm honey garlic sauce over the wings and toss until every piece is coated.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, ensure the wings are very dry before applying the baking powder mixture.
  • If you prefer a stickier glaze, reduce the sauce slightly longer until it coats the back of a spoon heavily.
  • Garnish with toasted sesame seeds or sliced green onions before serving.
