Enjoy these warm, comforting baked apples stuffed with a simple, flavorful brown sugar and cinnamon mixture. This recipe is easy to follow and perfect for a cozy dessert or seasonal treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large firm apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a small baking dish.
  2. Wash the apples thoroughly. Using an apple corer or a small knife, carefully remove the core from the top, leaving about half an inch at the bottom intact so the filling does not leak out.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until you have a crumbly paste.
  4. Divide the filling mixture evenly among the cored apples, pressing it gently into the cavity.
  5. If using, sprinkle the rolled oats over the top of the filling in each apple.
  6. Place the prepared apples into the baking dish. You can add about 1/4 inch of water to the bottom of the dish to help steam the apples slightly.
  7. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender when pierced with a fork but still hold their shape. Baking time varies based on apple size and variety.
  8. Carefully remove from the oven. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Chef Tariq suggests using a mix of apple varieties for complex flavor.
  • Amara recommends drizzling a little maple syrup over the top halfway through baking.
  • Leo likes adding a tiny pinch of nutmeg to the filling for extra warmth.
