Prepare impressive steak crostini quickly. This recipe features tender steak slices on toasted bread topped with a sharp horseradish cream and a sweet balsamic drizzle, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sirloin or tri-tip steak
  • 1 baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish, drained
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

Instructions

  1. Season the steak generously with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steak for 3 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove the steak and let it rest for 10 minutes before thinly slicing against the grain.
  2. While the steak rests, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Brush both sides of the baguette slices with the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Arrange them on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the bread slices for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until they are golden brown and crisp. Set aside.
  4. Prepare the horseradish cream: In a small bowl, combine the sour cream, prepared horseradish, Dijon mustard, and chopped chives. Mix well.
  5. Prepare the balsamic drizzle: In a small saucepan, simmer the balsamic vinegar over low heat until it reduces by half and thickens slightly, about 5 minutes. Let it cool slightly.
  6. Assemble the crostini: Spread a small amount of horseradish cream onto each toasted bread slice. Top with a few thin slices of steak. Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the steak. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can make the horseradish cream and balsamic drizzle up to one day ahead of time. Store them separately in the refrigerator.
  • For extra flavor, rub the steak with a little minced garlic before searing.
  • If you do not have balsamic vinegar, you can use a store-bought balsamic glaze.
