Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • For the Chocolate Sauce:
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and salt. Heat until butter is melted and mixture is boiling.
  2. Remove from heat and quickly stir in flour until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  3. Transfer dough to a mixing bowl. Let it cool slightly for a few minutes.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Transfer dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip.
  6. In a shallow dish, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon for coating.
  7. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Carefully pipe strips of dough (about 4-6 inches long) into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove churros with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  10. Immediately roll the hot churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  11. For the chocolate sauce, combine chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter in a microwave-safe bowl.
  12. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and melted.
  13. Serve warm churros with the chocolate sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Ensure oil temperature is consistent for even cooking.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pot when frying.
  • Churros are best enjoyed fresh.
