Create your own delicious and healthy strawberry fruit roll-ups at home. These chewy treats are made with real strawberries and contain no artificial additives, offering a taste of nostalgia with a wholesome twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for added sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to the lowest setting, typically around 170°F (75°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the sliced strawberries and water. Cook over medium heat until the strawberries break down and become soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Mash the strawberries with a fork or potato masher until you have a coarse puree. If you prefer a smoother texture, you can blend them briefly with an immersion blender or in a regular blender.
  4. Stir in the honey or maple syrup, if using.
  5. Pour the strawberry puree onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it evenly into a thin layer, about 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 4-6 hours, or until the fruit leather is no longer sticky to the touch and peels easily from the parchment paper. The exact time will depend on your oven and the thickness of the puree.
  7. Once cooled, carefully peel the fruit leather from the parchment paper. Cut into strips or desired shapes.
  8. Roll up the strips to create your homemade fruit roll-ups.

Notes

  • Ensure your oven is set to its lowest temperature to prevent the fruit from cooking or burning.
  • The baking time can vary significantly based on your oven and the moisture content of the strawberries. Check periodically.
  • For a more vibrant color, use ripe, deep red strawberries.
  • Store the fruit roll-ups in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or refrigerate for longer storage.
