Make juicy chicken tenders with an extra crispy coating and toss them in a simple, balanced sweet and spicy hot honey glaze. This recipe works well for weeknight meals or as a party snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch strips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot or Sriracha)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place a wire rack on top of the sheet. Lightly spray the rack with cooking spray.
  2. Set up a standard breading station with three shallow dishes. In the first dish, mix the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
  3. In the second dish, place the beaten eggs.
  4. In the third dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Dredge each chicken tender first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Dip it into the egg, letting excess drip off. Finally, press firmly into the panko breadcrumbs to coat completely.
  6. Place the coated tenders on the prepared wire rack, ensuring they do not touch.
  7. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the coating is golden brown and crisp.
  8. While the chicken bakes, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey, hot sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the butter until melted.
  9. Once the tenders are cooked, transfer them immediately to a large bowl. Pour the hot honey glaze over the tenders and toss gently until every piece is evenly coated.
  10. Serve immediately for the best crispness.

Notes

  • For extra crispness when baking, spray the tops of the coated tenders lightly with cooking spray before placing them in the oven.
  • If you prefer an air fryer method, cook at 380°F (195°C) for 10 to 12 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce in the glaze to control the heat level.
