3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chunks
3/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chunks, milk chocolate chunks, and walnuts, if using.
Scoop large portions of dough (about 6 ounces or 1/2 cup each) onto the prepared baking sheets. Do not flatten the dough balls; they should be very tall. Leave at least 3 inches between cookies.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. The edges should look set and lightly golden, but the centers should still look slightly underbaked and soft.
Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For the signature thick shape, chill the dough balls for at least 30 minutes before baking. This prevents excessive spreading.
Use high-quality chocolate chunks instead of chips for better melting and texture.
