Ingredients
Scale
4 pork shoulder steaks (about 1 inch thick)
1/2 cup low sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, vegetable oil, black pepper, and ground ginger to create the pork steak marinade.
Place the pork steaks in a large zip-top bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steaks, ensuring they are fully coated.
Refrigerate and marinate the pork steaks for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, for the best flavor.
If grilling: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400 degrees F). Lightly oil the grates. Remove the steaks from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Grill for 5 to 7 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
If baking: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with foil. Place the marinated pork steaks on the sheet. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.
Let the grilled pork steaks rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For extra caramelization when grilling, baste the steaks with a little reserved marinade during the last few minutes of cooking.
Pork shoulder steaks are budget-friendly and benefit greatly from this sweet soy pork steak marinade.
Serve these with classic Midwest sides like creamy coleslaw or baked beans.
