You want the flavor of a classic egg roll without the hassle of wrappers or deep-frying. This quick, one-pan Egg Roll in a Bowl delivers that savory, satisfying taste in under 20 minutes. It is perfect for a fast weeknight Keto or low-carb meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 pound ground pork or turkey
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can shredded cabbage (drained) or 3 cups coleslaw mix
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground pork or turkey to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the drained shredded cabbage (or coleslaw mix) and shredded carrots. Cook, stirring frequently, until the vegetables begin to wilt, about 4 minutes.
  6. Pour in the soy sauce (or coconut aminos), rice vinegar, Sriracha (if using), and black pepper. Stir well to coat all ingredients evenly.
  7. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes more until the sauce has slightly reduced and everything is heated through.
  8. Remove from heat. Divide the mixture among serving bowls. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • For a Paleo version, substitute coconut aminos for soy sauce.
  • If you prefer chicken, use ground chicken instead of pork or turkey.
  • Feel free to add a splash of fish sauce with the soy sauce for deeper umami flavor.
  • This dish reheats very well for lunch the next day.
