Ingredients
Scale
6 medium firm pears, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the sliced pears, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. Toss gently to coat the pears evenly.
Pour the spiced pear mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and salt for the topping.
Cut in the cold butter cubes using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces remaining. Do not overmix.
Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the spiced pears in the baking dish.
Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the pear filling is bubbly around the edges.
Let the crumble cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or heavy cream for the best flavor.
You can prepare the topping up to a day ahead and store it in the refrigerator.
If your pears are very soft, reduce the baking time slightly to prevent them from becoming mushy.
