A recipe for raw tuna marinated in citrus juice with lime, jalapeño, and cilantro.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sushi-grade tuna, diced
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ripe avocado, diced (optional)
  • 1 ripe mango, diced (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the diced tuna in a non-reactive bowl.
  2. Pour the lime juice over the tuna, ensuring it is fully submerged.
  3. Stir in the red onion, minced jalapeño, cilantro, salt, and pepper.
  4. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 1 hour. The acid in the lime juice will ‘cook’ the fish.
  5. If using, gently fold in the diced avocado and mango just before serving.
  6. Serve chilled with tortilla chips or lettuce cups.

Notes

  • Use only sushi-grade or sashimi-grade tuna for safety when preparing raw fish dishes.
  • Do not marinate the tuna for longer than 1 hour, as the texture will become mushy.
  • Adjust the amount of jalapeño based on your preference for heat.
