About Us: Our Adventure, From Takeout to Tables for Two

Hi, we’re Leo Abraham and Amara Louis. Welcome to SavorySkies, our little corner of the world where we document our greatest adventure yet: learning to cook, together.

Just a few years ago, our kitchen was the cleanest room in our apartment. Seriously. In the early days of our relationship, life was a whirlwind of long work hours and late-night city living. Our idea of a “home-cooked meal” was deciding which takeout menu to choose from. Cooking felt complicated, time-consuming, and honestly, a little intimidating. Our fridge was home to little more than a bottle of hot sauce and some questionable leftovers.

The change was gradual, then all at once. It started with a challenge: a rainy Sunday with nothing to do and a shared craving for a perfect bowl of pasta. We decided to try making it from scratch. That first attempt was… messy. There was flour everywhere, the sauce was a bit too thin, and we created a mountain of dishes. But as we sat down to eat our slightly lopsided, gloriously imperfect meal, we realized something profound. We had not just made food; we had created a memory. We had slowed down, worked together, and made something wonderful. We were hooked.

That one rainy Sunday turned into a weekly tradition. Leo, an architect by day, discovered a love for the structure and precision of baking, finding a different kind of blueprint in recipes. Amara, a graphic designer, fell in love with the vibrant colors of fresh produce and the art of plating, treating each dish like a blank canvas.

Our kitchen transformed from a pristine, unused space into the heart of our home. It’s where we decompress after a long day, where we celebrate small victories, and where we turn simple ingredients into a shared experience. It’s a place filled with music, with Leo’s methodical chopping as a baseline and Amara’s spontaneous taste-testing as the melody. We’ve had our share of burnt dishes and culinary mishaps, but every single one has ended in laughter.

We started SavorySkies because we wanted to share our journey with anyone who has ever felt intimidated by the idea of cooking. Our blog isn’t about five-star recipes or impossible techniques. It’s about real food for real life. It’s for the couples learning to share a small kitchen, for the person wanting to cook a nice meal after a long day, and for anyone who believes that the best meals are seasoned with a little bit of love and a lot of patience.

The name “SavorySkies” represents the wide-open possibilities we discovered in our own kitchen—the idea that the sky’s the limit when you’re willing to try something new, together.

We believe that cooking shouldn’t be a chore; it should be an adventure. We’re so glad to have you along for the ride.

Happy cooking, Welcome to SavorySkies.
